How to make your own winter den

As the nights draw in, families around the country will be looking forward to cosy Saturday evenings at home. One of the most enjoyable ways to make an otherwise standard Saturday more memorable is to build a den and watch your favourite TV show with your favourite takeaway food. One of the keys to having a cosy den over the winter is to ensure that you have a fully working heating system and a quick call to a Boiler Service Cheltenham company such as www.blu-fish.co.uk can see your boiler checked in no time.

Raise the roof

The roof is the key part of your den so choose carefully. Don’t go for a blanket that is too heavy or a small towel that won’t have much reach. A large bed sheet is ideal. Think about what will be able to support the roof structure; the back of your sofa is ideal, and clothes horses are also a great option as a ‘joist’ in your makeshift roof.

A very versatile way of supporting the roof it to use string, from the window to perhaps a door frame or something on a fireplace. Have a look around the room and see what strikes you, and then peg up your roof. Other sheets can then be added and pegged in place to create walls and add extra ambience to your den.

Den interiors

The dream den is almost bed-like. Think cushions, pillows, blankets, even your duvet – the more you have, the better.

Then you’re on to interior design. Think fairy lights, photos, anything to make it more personal. One of the big interiors trends at the moment is for all things seaside; fish, boats, ropes and so on, and there is no reason not to bring a little fashion into your den.

The final thing you’ll need is a tray, to keep your drinks stable, and perhaps to hold a laptop steady if you can’t see the television from your den. It’s also the perfect place to put a pizza or popcorn.

The best thing about the den is that in terms of interior updates, it’s among the easiest to make, and the easiest to reverse in the morning when you need to get the routine back to normal.

And of course, there’s no reason you couldn’t enjoy a den without children! So, don your pyjamas, and grab your blankets. You won’t regret it.
