Before you start looking around for a property, you need to save a deposit. It may be that like many first-time buyers the best way for you to do this is to stay with family whilst you save which enables you to put more money aside than you would be able to if you were renting on your own. You generally need to save around 10 per cent of the property value – there are other ways that you can use a lower deposit though as the government have schemes in place to help first time buyers get on the ladder, so this is worth exploring.

Once you have saved your deposit, you can then start to look at your options for properties. Don’t forget to think outside the box a bit if you can’t find what you want – for example companies like Ifurb a self build homes Solihull based company can allow you to build a home you want from scratch and will help you with this process.

It is also important to remember that you should also include in your budget the other costs as well as the property cost itself. These include solicitors’ fees, survey fees and any furniture that you may need to purchase for your new home.
